Virginia Tate has been selected to be the principal at Hickman High School for the
2026-2027 school year.

Tate is currently the assistant principal at Rock Bridge High School. She will replace Mary Grupe who
announced she would be moving into a district administrative role in student support services earlier
this year.

Tate, who has more than 20 years of experience as an educator, started in Columbia, South Carolina, as
an English teacher in a large public high school where she developed a strong passion for data-driven
practice and student engagement. She later transitioned into school leadership and administration and
has served in a variety of educational leadership roles at the school, district, and state level working in
the areas of teacher certification, professional development, federal programs, and advanced
programming. She also worked as the state’s advanced academic programs education associate where
she collaborated with educators and school systems on statewide educational initiatives and support
efforts designed to improve teaching and learning outcomes.

Tate holds a bachelor’s degree in English, a master’s degree in gifted education, a master’s degree, and
an educational specialist degree in educational leadership.

“Ms. Tate is dedicated to building strong relationships with students, families, and staff.
Her leadership approach comes from a place of humility, respect, and a sincere appreciation for staff,
students, and families. We’re excited to have her become part of the strong tradition of excellence that
exists at Hickman,” said Superintendent Jeff Klein.
