Chief Equity Officer Announced

Dr. Shonda Ambers-Phillips has been selected to be the Chief Equity Officer for Columbia Public Schools. 

Ambers-Phillips is currently an assistant superintendent in the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District in the areas of human resources and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Ambers-Phillips has 25 years of experience in education having also served as a teacher, school counselor, building and district leader, and an adjunct professor. She began her career teaching general psychology, sociology, American history, and AP psychology at Pattonville High School. While serving in the Hazelwood School District, she held building-level roles as a school counselor, specialist, and coordinator. At the district level, she has held several leadership positions, including coordinator of counseling and prevention services in the Rockwood School District, executive director of student services and equity, wellness, and inclusion in the Kirkwood School District

She holds master's degrees in school and professional counseling and educational administration, as well as a doctorate in educational administration. She is currently pursuing the special education leadership certification through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
